I’m escaping the bustling metropolis of St. Louis for the rugged but comfortable fishing camp scene in Bristol Bay Alaska. But that doesn’t mean Daddy Tries slows down. We keep making progress, and the latest step is to let the story board provided to me by Jessica, sink in. I will think about how it feels and flows.
It is an opportunity to view both the entire story and each individual scene and ask if it captures the spirit of the book. Does it contribute to the overall vision and allow for a humorous yet genuine illustration?
My desire for the book is for it to elicit laughs and snickers from athletes, and be full of nuances and fun things for kids to discover throughout. And it takes time to make sure we achieve that on every page. Worth the wait, I think.
